The Parish Council Working for You

Autumn 2011

New Parish Office

In August Danehill Parish Council moved into rented office space in Chelwood Gate Village Hall. The space provides the Council with a secure place to store records and a work space for the Clerk and for Council members. Working party or committee meetings can be held in the office. If the door is open, drop by and say hello.

Farewell to our Clerk

Olwen Wales, who has served as Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer to Danehill Parish Council since 1982, retired from the post in August. She has seen many changes to our parish since her first meeting. We thank her for all of the hours spent taking minutes of meetings and signing cheques and generally keeping the Council in line.  Danehill Parish Council will miss her good advice and cheerful demeanour. We wish her well in her retirement. We welcome our new clerk, Charles Gooders, who lives locally and has been an involved and active member of our community.

Parish Communiation: Stay in Touch

Our new and improving website.
Danehill and Chelwood Gate Community Alert 2 This group was set up on the Facebook website by parishioners to allow members to post information which may be of benefit during extreme weather or an emergency situation. Additional topics shared this year included news of lost pets and keys, notifications about fireworks, updates about road works, invitations to local concerts, and much more. To access the group you can join on www.facebook..com and search for ‘Danehill and Chelwood Gate Community Alert 2’. Beaconsfield Road Land Purchase
After many years and much persistence the Parish Council recently acquired approximately seven acres of land along Beaconsfield Road between Chelwood Gate Village Hall and the footpath next to the bus stop. Over the coming months the land will be cleared to allow parishioners access to some open space. We will be asking for your ideas about the usage of the land . Many ideas have been circulating, including recreational space for our young people, a burial ground, farm shop, allotments, forest amphitheatre, café, village green, etc.
Do you have memories or photographs to share about the land’s historic use?
Ashdown Weekend and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee
The organisers of the Ashdown Weekend, together with Danehill Parish Council, want to liaise with local organisations, clubs, and schools so that the whole village works in tandem for unified events during the special Bank Holiday weekend that has been set aside for the celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee from Friday 1st June to Tuesday 5th June 2012.  If your organisation is thinking about planning an event over the Jubilee weekend, would you please contact A n n e t t e G u r r a t  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it in the first instance so that we can get a consensus across the village on dates and range of events. Once we have some information we can hold an expanded “Jubilee” committee meeting involving all interested parties. This is your opportunity to help pull together a fun weekend of events for our local parish.  The Ashdown Weekend organisers are planning a streamed down version of the Ashdown with a smaller marquee to keep the costs down.  Some ideas that are being considered are a seniors’ tea, school choir concert and evening quiz with bar and barbecue on the Friday. The traditional Saturday Ball may be replaced by a Jubilee Celebration Dance when we hope everyone could wear 1950s ‘Jubilee’ dress, with a prize for the best dressed couple. On Sunday events might include a Grand Fete, church service and dog show, and our popular Ashdown Fun Run on the Monday morning. There are opportunities for sporting events, some of which might be lively competition with a neighbouring village. If you have any other suggestions or are able to help in any way then please contact the Ashdown Weekend organisers, Pam Wells 01825 791458 or Ann Catt 01825 740189.
